Your holiday itinerary:
Monday: christmas eve. Using the motorways with suitable stops, we aim to be in Paignton in plenty of time to settle in before dinner.
Tuesday: christmas day. After a leisurely breakfast we visit Bygones, a unique, deceptively large, and fascinating heritage attraction in Babbacombe. Journey back in time and explore 3 floors that are packed with over 100 years of British history, authentic curiosities, and quirky memorabilia. From here we head into the vibrant seaside resort of Torquay, famous for its links to the legendary comedy series Fawlty Towers before making our way back to the hotel and enjoying a 5-course Christmas dinner and entertainment in the lounge.
Wednesday: Enjoy a relaxing morning here in Paignton. Take a stroll into town and along the front, or just sit back and relax in the conservatory of the hotel and watch the world go by. This afternoon we visit the Babbacombe Theatre for the included matinee performance of the festive show.
Thursday: This morning we visit the cathedral city of Exeter. Time for some
Christmas shopping in the city’s thriving shopping centre. Perhaps have a look at the majestic, Gothic style cathedral, famous for its impressive West front carvings and the longest unbroken stretch of Gothic vaulting in the world. Arriving back in Paignton this afternoon we board the Christmas Train of Lights. The train and carriages of the Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway are decorated with thousands of lights, both inside and out and takes you to the enchanted forest which is transformed by a multitude of lights and feature displays. Leaving the forest, you are then greeted by the twinkling lights of Dartmouth reflected on the River Dart. After a turnaround at Kingswear and with the opportunity to disembark and take photographs from the platform, you will be on your way back to Paignton to experience the spectacle from a different direction.
Friday: Sadly, we must leave the Marine Hotel after breakfast and make our way home. Using the motorways, withs suitable stops, we hope to be back home late afternoon.
The 2-star Marine Hotel is a firm favourite with our regular travellers with many returning every time the hotel features in our brochure. This is thanks to the friendly staff and homely atmosphere of the hotel, excellent food and its level location on the seafront with excellent views across the bay. All the bedrooms are individually decorated and en-suite and equipped with TV, telephone, hairdryer, and hospitality tray. The hotel has a delightful lounge bar and a sea-view conservatory. A small lift serves all floors and there are a limited number of ground floor rooms available.
