Your holiday itinerary:
SUNDAY: Completing our pickups we make use of the motorway network as we make our way to St. Agnes for our five-night stay at the Rosemundy House Hotel. With suitable stops along the way, we aim to be at our hotel in plenty of time for you to settle in before dinner.
MONDAY: Our first excursion of the holiday takes us along Cornwall’s southern coast where we visit the charming villages of Looe & Polperro. Looe, a delightful fishing village, is home of the BBC TV series Beyond Paradise. Packed tightly into a steep valley on either side of the River Pol, the quaint colour-washed cottages, twisting streets and unspoilt harbour full of colourful boats make Polperro one of the prettiest places in Cornwall.
TUESDAY: Today we enjoy a scenic drive along Cornwall’s Atlantic Coast, one of the most beautiful stretches of coast in Britain. Along the way we first pay a visit to Padstow, a quaint Cornish fishing village, nestling on the beautiful Camel estuary. With several restaurants, cafes and bakeries serving deliciously fresh seafood and Cornish pasties this is an ideal place for lunch… just watch out for the seagulls! Continuing our scenic drive, we pass Tintagel, famed for its association with King Arthur as we make our way to Boscastle, a pretty natural harbour and village, mostly owned by the National Trust. The Elizabethan quay is home to quaint stone-built cottages, shops and tea rooms. An ideal place for a Cornish cream tea before we return to our hotel.
WEDNESDAY: After a leisurely breakfast we visit Trelissick House and Garden. Set on its own peninsula, with panoramic views over the Fal estuary, this is one of the best natural settings of any estate in the country. There are 30 acres of garden to explore, with twisting paths leading you through the important collection of hydrangeas, rhododendrons and ginger lilies. The House is open seasonally for you to learn the history of the families that once called this place home and to relax in the south facing rooms with refreshments from the Kitchen Café. This afternoon we spend some time in St. Mawes, a small fishing village nestled at the end of the Roseland peninsula. The resort has a picturesque harbour with whitewashed houses guarded by Henry VIII’s castle.
THURSDAY: A leisurely day before our journey home tomorrow. You have the option to join us this morning as we visit the historic city of Truro or spend the whole day here in St. Agnes. Truro is Cornwall’s County town and is a delight to explore with its maze of cobbled alleyways, beautiful Georgian architecture and its Cathedral, a stunning Gothic Revival building with three spires, superb stained glass, a carved reredos, and a world-class organ. We then return to St. Agnes for an afternoon of leisure. St. Agnes is a charming village with a rich mining heritage and a World Heritage Site status, you can learn more about this mining heritage by visiting the museum. St. Agnes also sits in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with some stunning coastal scenery. Take a stroll through the village, past Stippy Stappy down to the beach. This is Poldark Country; Winston Graham lived close by and use the whole parish as the inspiration for his Poldark series of books. Enjoy a walk along one of the coastal paths and set foot on the set of Poldark, the dramatic clifftop scenery andiconic engine houses of this section of coast have served as a backdrop for
many a horse-riding scene all through the Poldark series. St. Agnes Head doubled up as Nampara, part of Poldark family estate.
FRIDAY: Sadly, we must say goodbye to the Rosemundy Hotel and begin our journey home. Again, using the motorway network with suitable stops along the way we aim to be back in Essex early evening.
The 3-star Rosemundy House Hotel is a firm favourite with C&J Tours passengers.
