The Giants Causeway, a collection of neatly packed columns of hexagonal basalt rocks was created by volcanic eruptions some 60 million years ago and today forms Northern Ireland’s only UNESCO World Heritage Site. With an interactive exhibition and audio guides, the award-wining Visitor Centre reveals the stor Venture out and walk the mile or so to the rocks or take the shuttle bus (charge of approximately £1.50 not included).
THURSDAY: Today we travel south and visit the elegant Hillsborough Castle and Gardens, a working royal palace functioning as the official residence of the Royal Family when they are in Northern Ireland.
