We begin the day with a visit to the family-run Poplar Nurseries at Great Tey. Well known for its wide range of plants, garden care accessories and garden furniture. Discover fresh produce in the food hall and delicatessen. Enjoy refreshments in the restaurant which serves a range of homemade meals and cakes before we make our way to Beth Chatto Gardens, created by the award-winning plantswoman, author and lecturer. In 1960 Beth took an overgrown wasteland of brambles, parched gravel and boggy ditches and transformed it into a series of informal gardens. As the conditions within the garden vary widely, five distinct areas have been created providing useful examples of working with nature to find the right plant for the right place. There is a nursery on site for the green fingered and a teahouse to round off a great day out.

PLEASE NOTE: The pick-ups for this excursion will be in reverse of the normal route, starting in Takeley, and the drop offs will start in Halstead.
